Enrollment Procedures

It’s difficult to comprehend that pre-enrollment for school year 2015-2016 is upon us!  As you can imagine, this is a highly-coordinated effort among many individuals.  The outcome of pre-enrollment is momentous.  Classes and classrooms are prepared based on pre-enrollment numbers and budgets are built based on these needs.  Our Enrollment Center has streamlined the amount of paperwork required to pre-enroll existing students, hoping to cut down on the number of students and families that do not take advantage of this opportunity.    

            February begins the pre-enrollment process for current Tahlequah Public Schools students as well as 8th grade students in surrounding schools that may be attending Tahlequah Public Schools as 9th graders in the fall.

            Tahlequah High School students and Tahlequah Middle School’s 8th grade students received pre-enrollment packets and course guides earlier this month.  Completed packets are due to school personnel by March 13, 2015.  Current Tahlequah Middle School 6th & 7th grade students will receive packets later this month with an expected return date of March 6, 2015.

            PreKindergarten through 5th grade pre-enrollment will be sent home with students March 23, 2015 and due back to each teacher by March 30, 2015.  Sequoyah Elementary School will host their annual PreK Roundup April 30 and May 1, 2015.  Students enrolling must be 4 years of age on or before September 1, 2015.  This program has limited space and students are enrolled on a “first come-first served” basis.  Enrollment information may be picked up at Sequoyah Elementary beginning April 20, 2015.

            Kindergarten Round-up will be held April 29, 2015 at 225 N. Water.  Enrollment packets may be picked up at 225 N. Water beginning April 20, 2015 and appointment(s) made as parents pick up the enrollment information.  Families and students not enrolled in the TPS PreK program but wishing to attend kindergarten with us should plan to attend the round-up.  Students must be 5 years of age on or before September 1, 2015. 

            All students must be enrolled by a parent or legal guardian and bring a copy of the student(s) birth certificate and immunizations as well as social security card, Sooner Care and CDIB if applicable.  Parents/Guardians are required by law to provide proof of residence in the school district which may be satisfied with a printout from the Cherokee County Assessor’s office or filed Homestead Exemption form. A second form of residency is also required and may be a copy of one of the following: previous month’s utility bill or phone bill, CDIB picture ID, a current lease agreement, or valid Oklahoma Driver’s license with parent/guardian(s) name and must be the same physical address shown on the County Assessor’s printout.  Check out our website at tahlequahpublicschools.org for a complete checklist of required documents.  

            We work diligently to encourage our current students and families to return their pre-enrollment information which alleviates the need to enroll through the Enrollment Center at 225 N. Water during the summer.  However, the Enrollment Center is open all summer and families may enroll at any time.  Summer hours are 7:30 – 5:00 Monday through Thursday and 7:30 – 11:30 on Friday during the months of June and July. Beginning August 1, the Enrollment Center is open Monday – Friday, 7:30 – 4:30.
