Heritage Elementary

Heritage Eagles are flying through the spring semester with many things keeping us busy. Celebrations are in order: Heritage Elementary is once again a Great Expectations Model School!  We also want to congratulate Mrs. Lezlie Gilbert on being named teacher of the year! She is truly a great expectations teacher.  She has a positive atmosphere in her classroom encouraging critical thinking with her students.  She has taught for 14 years, nine of which have been in the Tahlequah Public District.  She currently teachers 2nd grade and is an amazing facilitator of learning in her classroom.

We have lots to look forward to in the coming weeks. The book fair kicked off officially on Friday, March 5th and wrapped up on March 12th. Testing preparations have been occurring throughout the school. The 5th grade writing OCCT was completed in February. The third grade OCCT will be April 20-23.  Fourth and fifth grades will test April 27-30th.   We take pride in knowing that our students are prepared for the required tests. Please remember that your child needs a healthy breakfast and a solid sleep schedule to help reduce any testing anxiety they may have. Our mission is not a test score, but to make sure our students feel successful and have the knowledge that they need for the required grade level.

Our students are working on their art piece for the 21st Annual Cherokee County Student Art Show that will take place at the Tahlequah Public Schools’ Performing Arts Center, located at 591 Pendleton in Tahlequah.  This year’s art show theme is “One Square Mile: A Look around Cherokee County as We See It.”   The exhibit will be available for viewing on Wednesday, April 1st from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Thursday, April 2nd from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

We hope you can join us for Parent Teacher conferences on April 3rd.  We do believe that students are more successful when parents and teachers work together for the good of the child.  We also encourage any of our family members to join our PTO. With the help of our PTO and successful jog-a-thon our students will be able to have concrete and new basketball goals soon.  We work together to make sure students have what they need to succeed.  Thank you for taking an interest in your child’s education.
