THS Traffic Changes
TAHLEQUAH, OK – The school district will be making changes to road traffic at Tahlequah High School (THS) after reviewing traffic streams there effective Monday, October 12, 2015. We expect these modifications to minimize the dangers caused by the current drop off locations for middle school athletic students as well as prevent accidents involving students and automobiles at Tahlequah High School before school begins in the morning.
Traffic will be prohibited between the TMAC and athletic building before school. Patrons dropping off middle school athletic students will be able to drop students off at the curb in the TMAC parking lot. We suggest that patrons enter the TMAC parking lot through the farthest west entrance and exit from the east exit so that several vehicles can line up at once. The traffic gate will be closed in the morning so that only pedestrian traffic can enter. This same drive will be open after school for students to exit the high school traveling one-way north only.
Students enrolled in “0” hour at THS are not allowed to leave after “0” hour. Students traveling to and from campus during this busy time is a safety hazard as well as contradictory to school day procedures for leaving campus.
The east entrance (Mike Sheets Boulevard) to Tahlequah High School will be open to high school students for access to the south student parking lot. Students may be dropped off in the morning on the east side of the cafeteria by entering on Mike Sheets and turning right or north at the Guard Shack. The drive in front of the high school cafeteria will become a one-way north drive.
Students will continue to be picked up after school in front of the Administration building. The THS Administration building parking lot north of the high school will also have a couple of significant changes affecting the entrance and exit. Beginning October 12, the entrance to the parking lot will be the west entrance and the exit will be the east exit. Students may continue to be dropped off or picked up in the Administration building parking lot.
A map is included for better clarification of the adjustments to traffic that we determined were necessary to improve safety at THS. There will be staff on site for the first few days during the week of October 12 to assist our patrons and students with the proposed traffic variations. Please know that we seriously consider traffic issues and have made these decisions in the best interest of our students and patrons.
