Standing Together

Team becomes one on the court

The exhilarating experience of making a shot right before the buzzer was what these girls lived for. They practiced their hardest to prepare themselves to dominate the court at every game. A little extra mental preparation was also key to the equation. To mentally prepare for a game, Sierra N. Smith, 10, said, “I say the Basketball prayer, listen to music and stretch.”

Each player had something that brought her to Basketball. For Sierra L. Smith, 10, her inspiration was “my mom because she was the star Basketball player of her high school.”

Although some players may have had some kind of a good luck charm for playing, some found that it was not necessary. “I don’t have one, and I don’t need one,” Alli Stayathome, 9, said.

A necessary element of playing any sport was having good sportsmanship. “Sportsmanship is a good attitude toward others even though they are your opponent. I always try to have good sportsmanship on and off the court,” Bailey Wright, 10, said. With good sportsmanship, it was easy for both teams to have due respect both during and after a game.

Many players created quite a name for themselves throughout their high school Basketball career. As a senior in her last season of Basketball, Lindsay Wade, 12, said, “I want to be remembered for my leadership and passion for the game.”

Coach David Qualls, in his first year as a varsity head coach, helped teach the team the skills they needed to be successful players. “I enjoy coming to practice every day and getting to be around the team. They’re an outstanding group of young ladies on and off the court and work extremely hard. It’s a pleasure being their coach,” Qualls said.

Through their hard work and practice, and coaching instruction, these girls have played another great season.
