Tahlequah Public Schools’ “littlest” learners are finishing their first year in school. The school year has gone by so quickly for these students. The 200-plus students at Sequoyah Elementary School have grown so much in the past nine months. It is exciting to see how their little lives change so drastically in this short period of time.
In just a few short weeks the pre-kindergarten students will be considered kindergartners! These students will become part of the Cherokee, Heritage or Greenwood Elementary school sites. We know the students are excited to go to their new schools and we expect them to do fantastic!
Each year we hold end of the year celebrations for each class to mark the end of their pre-k journey. These celebrations will be held in the morning hours of May 13th. Mrs. Cacy, Mrs. Horn and Mrs. Silkeys’ classes will be held at 8:30 am. Mrs. Plasencia, Ms. Keller and Mrs. Spears’ classes will be at 9:30. Mrs. Faulkner, Mrs. Aldridge and Ms. Ramos’ classes will be at 10:30. Each ceremony is held at the church auditorium across the street from our school. Parents and family members are encouraged to attend.
We have begun the round-up process for our pre-kindergarten program for next year. If you have not picked up your enrollment packet for the 2016-2017 school year, please do so as soon as possible. The enrollment packets are available at the Board of Education located at 225 N. Water St anytime between 7:30 am and 4:30 pm. You may also pick up PK packets at Sequoyah located at 425 S. College Ave from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm. Your spot will be confirmed once all documents have been completed, including the paperwork for Cherokee Nation, our Pre-K partner.
We would like to congratulate the site teacher of the year at Sequoyah. Mrs. Sasha Faulkner was chosen by her peers to represent our building as the 2016-2017 site teacher of the year. Sasha has worked for TPS for 11 years and 1 previous year in Muskogee. She is a dedicated staff member that always puts the needs of the students first. We are lucky to have her as a member of our work family.
We appreciate each family we have served this year. We are saddened to see them leave us, but look forward to what the future holds for each of them. We are also very excited to meet all our new students!
