Spring Athletics

Tahlequah High School Athletics has had one of the most successful seasons in school history.

The Tahlequah High School baseball team went on the road to Collinsville for regionals, where they came out on top and advanced to the state tournament for the first time since 1996. They placed four players on the All-District team: Catcher Cayden Aldridge, Pitcher Corbin Simpson, Infielder RJ Pearson and Outfielder Eastun Caldwell. Honorable mention for Tahlequah was Outfielder Colton Mashburn and Infielder Brock Mitchell.   Lance Jeanes was voted Coach of the Year for district 5A-3.

The Tahlequah Slow Pitch team went to Fort Gibson regionals and won.  They qualified for the 6A State Tournament this season after a one year absence.   This runs their total to 23 state tournament appearances in the last 24 years. Kortney Dry and Erin Dillard earned places on the 6A-5A All-State team.

The boys’ soccer team made the playoffs this season and won the 5A Academic State Championship. Coach Joe Ichniowski had a very young team that will be very competitive next season. Trae Hendricks was names to the 5A All-State team.

The girls’ soccer team failed to make the playoffs but landed three student athletes on the 5A East All State team. These girls are Mackenzie Smith, Lydian Fite, and Neali Ferrell.

Tahlequah High School Track qualified 25 student athletes for this year’s State Track meet held at Moore High School. The boys’ team placed 8th overall and the girls’ team placed 14th overall.  Several athletes had a state track meet performance.  The 4x800m team comprised of Joshua Dickm Seth Martin, Nathaniel Floyd and Braxton Hood finished second in their event.  Braxton Hood finished 3rd in the state in the 800m and Joshua Dick finished 3rd and 5th in the 1600m and 3200m respectively.  Dante McDowell finished 6th in the shot put.  On the girls’ side, Emily Bask and Allie George finished 4th and 5th in the high jump.  Lyric Peterson was 3rd in shot put.

The boys’ golf team qualified for the state tournament at Shawnee where Blake Berry finished 3rd and Jax Johnson finished 7th. With Blake’s performance, he was named as a 5A East All State selection.  Kennedy Payton on the Lady Tigers golf team qualified and represented Tahlequah High School at the state tournament in Durant.

The boys’ tennis team qualified for the State Tennis Tournament which was held in Oklahoma City. Philippe Mosqueria-Guelpen finished #5 in the #1 singles.

Next school year we will continue to stream our sports on www.tahlequahtigers.tv. This allows our parents, fans, and patrons to watch most of athletic events from their home computers free of charge. This is a student-led broadcast that the kids have taken great pride in.

As you can see, Tahlequah High School Athletics had a fantastic Spring and qualified several teams for State competition.   Tahlequah Athletics had 14 All Staters, several athletes signed athletic scholarships, and completed the most successful year in over a decade.

With the looming forecast for budget cuts for all state schools, the athletic department will need your help - not just for athletics, but for the sake of education. The Tahlequah Athletic department will also be looking for more corporate sponsors in the upcoming months.

It has been a very busy but successful year for Tahlequah Athletics.   As we go into summer, please plan to attend an event this fall. Go Tigers!!!!!!!!
