Tahlequah Middle School

The school year is off to a wonderful start at Tahlequah Middle School.  The school welcomed seven new teachers, a librarian, a counselor, a speech pathologist and a support staff member.  They also welcomed 228 new 6th graders to the building this year.  The students were invited to sixth grade orientation one afternoon in early August.  “The orientation allowed the students to meet their teachers, tour the building, pick up schedules and participate in a mock school day with an abbreviated schedule.  This is the second year that the school has hosted a sixth grade orientation, and we have seen the benefits of the event.  The students seem much more comfortable on the first day of school and quickly acclimate to the middle school’s procedures,” said Jaycie Smith, Principal at Tahlequah Middle School.

The middle school recently completed their cookie dough and magazine fundraiser.  The cookie dough is scheduled for delivery the afternoon of September 29th.  The magazine subscriptions will begin in approximately four to six weeks.  Thank you to everyone who supported the school by purchasing cookie dough and/or magazine subscriptions from our students.

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, September 29th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.  Conferences will continue on Friday, September 30th from 8:00-11:00 AM with lunch from 10:30 to 11:00.  Homecoming festivities will begin at 2:00 on Friday with the parade on Muskogee Avenue.  The homecoming game will begin at 7:00 at Doc Wadley Stadium.  Music students from throughout the district will sing the National Anthem from the football field prior to the game.

After many hours of practice, middle school choir members recently competed and 14 students were selected to participate in the Eastern District Honor Choir.  Thirty-six middle school students competed and were selected as choir members for Circle the State with Song.

The middle school drama and music departments recently held auditions for the fall musical The Music Man.  The musical will be performed on November 17th, 18th and 19th.  Contact Mr. Fuller at the middle school for ticket information.

Tahlequah Middle School is enjoying fall athletics this year.  They have extremely talented athletes participating in cheer, cross country, football, pom, softball and volleyball.  The schedule of events for athletics and other activities is located on the school’s webpage or follow the middle school on Facebook.
