Technology Updates

With the 2016-2017 school year wrapped up, our technology team is gearing up to work through a multitude of summer projects.

There are several big projects to be completed this summer.  We are looking at migrating several of our sites to Windows 10 (Cherokee, Sequoyah, Heritage, Maintenance, Transportation, Child Nutrition, Personnel, and Administration Offices).  The plan is to migrate these sites this summer, and migrate the rest of the sites (High School, Middle School, & Greenwood) in the summer of 2018.

The migration will also include a major shift from traditional storage of data to an emphasis on “cloud” technologies like Google Drive and OneDrive.   This will allow all of our users to have access to their files at all times whether on a Windows 10 PC, a tablet, or even a phone.  This will create potential for greater collaboration amongst employees and outside sources.

The technology team will also be implementing the 2nd year of the technology replacement plan.  This summer they will be installing 100 new desktop computers at Cherokee, Sequoyah, Maintenance, Transportation, Child Nutrition, Personnel, and Administration Offices.  They will also be adding 19 more classroom carts of Chromebooks (for the 4th & 7th grade classrooms) to further our goal of getting Chromebooks in the hands of all students.

The technology team is also excited to be implementing Apples Profile Manager to manage our existing iPads throughout the district.  We currently have around 400 apple devices.  Implementing a new Mobile Device Management (MDM) is a lot of work up front, but will provide monitoring, application deployment, & security which is becoming more of a necessity all the time.

The technology team will also be involved in the technology aspects of the new construction of the Cherokee cafeteria, as well as the board office remodeling project.

The job of technology inside our school district is always advancing and it is a challenge to keep up.  TPS is committed to doing the most with the money we have allocated, and to give students and staff the best opportunity for success.  We have had a very successful year in technology, and we are confident that we will continue to advance into the future.
