Tahlequah Public Schools Foundation - UNCORKED
It's that time of year again when the Tahlequah Public Schools Foundation honors Tahlequah's teachers! That's right, Uncorked is right around the corner and it's important for you to be a part of it.
First, what is the Tahlequah Public Schools Foundation? The TPSF Board of Trustees consists of a group of volunteers who understand the value and importance of education for our community, our families, and our future. They engage themselves in creating opportunities for individuals and businesses in our community to financially support our schools and teachers through the funding of grants.
How do these grants get awarded? Each year, teachers submit detailed requests to fund specific ideas for good learning environments. Although the Foundation is able to fund a majority of the grant proposals, it is not able to fund ALL of them. Clearly, this is disappointing to those who serve on the Board as well as the teachers involved. Thus, the Foundation has set a goal of raising enough funds so that in the future, we will never have to say “no” to worthwhile ideas and innovations
What can you do? There are two major events hosted by TPSF that enable community members the opportunity to help support the work of the Foundation. The first event is our annual Glow Golf event, which took place in October 2018 at the Tahlequah City Golf Course. The second event is "Uncorked" which will take place later this month. This event celebrates our teachers and honor grant winners.
“Uncorked” will take place on Saturday April 28, 2018, from 6-9 pm at the NSU University Center Ballroom. We congratulate our grant recipients and kick off the fundraising for next year. Last year we raised over $15,000. This year, we hope to raise more. This is a party where the whole community is invited to celebrate the employees at TPS who do so much for our children.
Admission is free, so come as you are. Be comfortable, join the fun, and throw a little money at education. Rum Runners, Red Moon, Buffalo Wild Wings, Napoli's, Rib Crib, Chilango's, El Molcajete, The Branch, and Las Maracas have donated food and beverages. Enjoy these items as you stroll through about 90 auction items and door prizes.
There will be a silent auction where items will be sectioned off with several separate closing times throughout the evening. Why? If you can't stay all night, we want you to still be able to have a bidding war and take home prizes.
Every TPS employee and VIP ticket will receive a free door prize ticket. More are available for $5 each or 5 for $20. A TPSF Board Member will roam the crowd and sell more throughout the night. They can also be purchased at the VIP ticket area. Drop your ticket(s) in the bucket beside an item you want to win. Who knows? You may win a helicopter ride for only a $5!
“Uncorked” will hold a live auction for each of three portable grills generously donated by Tahlequah Lumber. After the last one has been auctioned, the winners may open them. Inside one of them will be a Helicopter Ride for 2 donated by TPSF's Partner First Flight. The grand finale will be a live auction for a 6-night stay at a Maui condo generously donated by One Degree!
On April 28, I want to personally encourage you to engage in this important work of supporting our schools and making a difference in the lives of our students.
