The 2018-19 school year is upon us. I would like to welcome back our 3,600+ students and our 500+ employees. Our Teachers will report to work on Monday, August 13 and we will welcome our students back on August 16.
We will welcome approximately forty new certified teachers and twenty support staff to the district. We will also have new principals at 3 sites this year; Vicki Bush at Tahlequah High School, Amanda Vance at Heritage Elementary and Natalie Cloud at Central Academy.
Due to the support of our community and elected officials, teachers and support staff will all receive significant raises this year across the state. All certified staff members will receive pay increases ranging from $5,000 to $8,000 depending on their years of experience and degree level. Support staff will all see a raise of at least $1,250. Competitive teacher salaries are crucial as we compete with other states to hire the best educators. This would not have happened without your support, so we want to thank all of our parents, students and community members who supported our efforts last year. We would also like to thank our elected officials for their support of public education in Cherokee County.
Tahlequah Public Schools mission statement is Tigers R.O.A.R., Removing Obstacles Achieving Results. Administration, teachers and support staff have been tirelessly completing essential tasks that are often unnoticed or unappreciated. Painting and scrubbing classrooms, buffing hallways, upgrading technology, creating schedules and hiring new staff are just a few things that occur in the summer months that are invisible to most but important to a successful beginning of a new school year. So, to these people I say Thank you!
I am excited to have the opportunity to be a Tahlequah Tiger. Tahlequah Public Schools and the local community are among the best in the state of Oklahoma. The students and staff are second to none and I am honored to be able to serve as your Superintendent.
