Kicking Off 2018-2019
Although the beginning of a new school year can be an anxious time to both new and returning students, it also brings positive excitement throughout our school buildings and community. During the 2018-2019 school year, we will continue to build upon our district goals to raise student achievement, close the achievement gap, and provide all schools with equitable resources. Our vision remains Tigers R.O.A.R. (Removing Obstacles Achieve Results).
To help us achieve our goals we have made a few administrative changes and have added new teachers and support employees to our team. Lacie Davenport has taken on a new district role as the Director of Family and Community Engagement. Lacie is reaching out and coordinating services and resources within our community to assist families at all sites. Taking on the role as Principal of Heritage Elementary is Amanda Vance who served as the vice principal at Heritage last year and brings a wealth of elementary experience and knowledge. Julie Christian is new to our community and will move into the vice principal position at Heritage and has been an elementary and middle school teacher for the past several years. At the high school Vicki Bush was named Principal and Natalie Cloud as the Director of Alternative Education. Both ladies have served at the high school as vice principals the past several years and have a wide range of secondary school experience. The vacant positions of high school vice principal will be filled by Jackie Willis and Sherry Yount, who have worked in the district as teachers for several years.
Tahlequah Public Schools received the Oklahoma Striving Readers Comprehensive Literacy Grant which has several new Literacy Coaches. Serving as Literacy Coaches in our schools are Shelli Lamons (Birth-grade PK), Stacy Girdner (K-2), Lora Cosby (3-5), Emily Thompson (6-8), and Stephanie Crawford (9-12).
