Sequoyah Elementary

The students at Sequoyah PK are in there last weeks before “graduating” to elementary school for kindergarten.  The 235 three and four year olds at Sequoyah have all grown so much this year not only physically, but emotionally and academically as well.

We will begin preparing for next years’ entrance into kindergarten with visits to their new schools in the month of May.  Every future kindergartener will visit one of the three elementary schools, Cherokee, Greenwood or Heritage.  They will tour the school, visit the classrooms and meet their future teachers.  Parents are welcome to meet us at each destination to prepare them for the change as well.  The PK staff has worked continually to prepare every child for success in the future.

The PK staff will wind up the year at Sequoyah with a celebration ceremony for all of their students.  These celebrations will be held in the morning hours of Friday, May 15th.  The event is held in the church auditorium across the street to accommodate any family that might want to attend.  The last day of school for students is Tuesday, May 19th.

This school year we served about 200 pre-kindergarten student in our program.  Enrollment packets for the 2015-2016 school year were available on April 20th at the Board of Education located at 225 N. Water anytime between 7:30 am and 4:30 pm.  When you pick up your packet, an appointment time will be set to bring all completed paperwork and your student to Sequoyah for final enrollment.  These appointments will be April 30th and May 1st.   Your spot will be confirmed once all documents have been completed, including the paperwork for Cherokee Nation, our Pre-K partner.

Congratulations to Mrs. Tiffany Cacy for being selected the Teacher of the Year at Sequoyah.  She is finishing her 14th year as a classroom teacher for Tahlequah Public Schools.  She serves as the Boys and Girls Club leader for our building as well as the Technology rep.  She has written many grants that have helped every classroom in our building.  We are blessed to have her be a part of our staff!

We appreciate each family we have served this year.  We are saddened to see them leave us, but look forward to what the future holds for each of them.  We are also very excited to meet all our new students!
