Tahlequah Public Schools Foundation Celebrates Their Totally Rad 30th Anniversary with Annual Uncorked Event on May 23rd

The Tahlequah Public Schools Foundation, established in 1989 by a group of concerned citizens, believe Tahlequah’s quality of life and economic development are related directly to the quality of our educational system.  The mission of the foundation has not changed since it was crafted 30 years ago, ‘to encourage the local community to support our educational system, to secure contributions and the distribute funds and equipment for the educational benefit of our students’.

From the beginning, the foundation sought to establish a sense of giving in the community, eventually settling on direct donations, and two large events as fundraisers. The Glow Golf Fundraiser, offered each year, gives businesses and individuals an opportunity to compete in a nocturnal environment with glow equipment. The foundation has evolved over the years with this event. Insert memory here of Josh Reasor showing up with the calendar for the board to use the days with full moons as consideration for finding a perfect date in the fall!

The second, and the foundation’s most profitable fundraiser, is Uncorked. What began as a wine and cheese pairing to celebrate grant recipients has evolved into a celebration of teacher and staff appreciation throughout the district. Last year over 50 business leaders and individuals in the community donated auction items and door prizes worth thousands of dollars. The cycle of giving continues as TPSF uses their own grant committee and guidelines to distribute the monies collected from Glow Golf, Uncorked, and donations to Tahlequah Public School Teachers anywhere from $35,000 to $50,000 each year.

The board is proud to celebrate the 30th anniversary at this year’s Uncorked with the theme of ‘80’s Dance. Put on your leg warmers, converse shoes, scrunches, and blue eye shadow.  Top it off with five cans of aerosol hair spray and join in the totally rad fun. Tickets are on sale now for $25 and can be picked up at Aerofit, Cashmere Lane, Rum Runners, or Celeste Looney Insurance. You can also like contact like a current board member, like Barbara Fuller, Ashley Talburt, Luke Foster, Carrie Scearce, Carrie Lane, Suzanne Lovell, Criss Pearson, Kirk Norrid, Randy Gibson, Tarina Lowe, Amanda Harris, Kira Fell, Lauryn Fowler, Jennifer Walker, and Kevin Burns. The place is the Armory on Thursday, May 23rd and the fun begins at 6:00pm, duh!
