STAR

Students Talented in the Arts Realm

S.T.A.R. is the TALENTED portion of the G/T Program at TPS

  • These students are nominated in the same way as the gifted students, by classroom teacher, parent, other students, but mainly by the arts area teacher.
  • Students are evaluated by a checklist instrument that was created for their particular arts area by professionals in the school and community.
  • These students are served by specialty classes in the school.  Students enroll in these classes where they gain enrichment and growth in their talent area.
  • In lower elementary, the talent areas include art and music while the upper level students are identified as talented in Art, Music (vocal & instrumental), Bodily Kinesthetic (athletics/gymnastics/dance), Communication (written/speech/drama), Leadership, and Technology.
  • Arts area classes are provided at each level with class field trips, but we also bring programs to the THS Performing Arts Center such as a traveling opera troop, ballets, and plays as available.
  • Our elementary students provide an eager audience for student performances that our outstanding secondary arts programs provide.
  • TPS students of all ages are served in this venue as participants or audience to the arts.

What is RISE?

RISE stands for Reaching Intellectual Success and Excellence and is the program which serves the identified gifted students of Tahlequah Public Schools.
