Welcome back to Heritage Elementary for the 2023-2024 school year. We have had some exciting things happen already this year.

Heritage Elementary had its Second Annual Family House Con! This event was started last year for our families to enjoy and learn about our house system. There were several stations set up for families such as house presentations, cheers and chants, bracelet making, photo op, sidewalk chalk, face painting, food, and a variety of other community booths. Families were encouraged to attend one of the house presentations to learn all about characteristics of each house, how students are sorted into houses, what teachers, parents, and students are saying about the house system, how students earn house points, ROAR 34, cross grade level connections, community connections, and house assemblies. Our next family event will be Camp Read – A – Lot which will have a variety of activities such as games, literacy stations, a bon fire and several educational booths. We love providing these opportunities for our families to enjoy!

This year we added House Council to our existing house system. Students in fifth grade were able to apply to be a candidate for House Senator. Third and fourth grade students could choose to run for House Representative. Students began campaigning on Tuesday October 10th and voting commenced on Friday of the same week. There were four fifth graders elected as House Senators and fourteen students elected as House Representatives. These students will assume school-wide leadership duties for the year.

World Dream Day was September 25th and as Rêveur‘s Community Outreach, they hosted Career Day. All students were encouraged to come to school dressed as their “dream career.”  Twenty parent volunteers participated as guest speakers in our event. Teachers also utilized Career Day resources to help our students realize that their dream can become a reality and to not only plant the seeds but give them the tools to make it happen. Resources included a Career Interest Inventory and Career Exploration Posters. Interest and skills play a big part into choosing the right career. The interest inventory allowed students to explore their career interests which led to new questions and ideas that they may not have thought of before. This allowed students to begin planning for that dream career now.

Heritage competitive robotics teams, the Cogs, Sprockets, and Gears, have been working hard fundraising, building, and practicing for the upcoming competitive season. They will host their second annual Vex IQ robotics competition at Heritage on November 11th.

Thank you to all the Heritage students, families, volunteers, and faculty for making the fall book fair a success. Through our Innovative Literacy Grant, we were able to distribute two or more books to every student in the school. We are already looking forward to and planning some special house shopping days for our spring book fair in March.

This cross-country season has come to an end after the students participated in three total meets. The athletes here at Heritage Elementary found great success at each of the three meets bringing home around 30 medals in total across all meets! Students practiced every day during specials time. We had a fantastic cross-country season and are excited to build upon this success next year.

Fourth grade will be performing during their Fall Follies Concert on October 26th at 6:00 p.m. They have been working hard learning their Patriotic and Fall music. Circle the State students and Mrs. Hilton will be specially featured. Our Veterans Day Program will be coming up on November 9th at 6:00 p.m. and we would like to invite all our area veterans to attend.
