Greetings from TPS Transportation! We are excited to begin another school year and for the opportunity to help get your students to school, athletic contests, and the many other extracurricular activities that they enjoy. Our drivers are highly trained and collectively have over 200 years of driving experience. We believe they are the best in the state, and they are dedicated to keeping every Tahlequah Tiger safe while traveling. Every driver is committed to our core values of Safety, Dependability, and Positivity.
The mechanics in our shop have been hard at work all summer. All our buses and vehicles have been inspected and prepared for the many miles that they will travel. These men put in a lot of hours of hard work to ensure that our buses, vans, and cars stay road-worthy and safe. Precious cargo is being transported every day here at Transportation, and these professionals are a huge part of making sure that they reach their destinations safely!
Our bus routes are organized and ready to run. Please contact the Transportation Office in the coming days to make sure your students’ address and contact information are correct. We will have pick-up and drop-off information for you and be able to answer any questions you have. Our office number is 918-458-4168, or you can email us at martinp@tahlequahschools.org. We hope your students have a very successful and safe school year!
On September 9, registered voters who live within the Tahlequah Public School district boundaries have the opportunity to invest in our schools, our community, and our future. TPS has finalized a capital investment plan to provide students with safer schools, updated facilities, and enhanced academic and extracurricular opportunities without a tax increase. This plan reflects months of collaboration, shaped by civic meetings and listening sessions with students, parents, staff, and community members.
The total investment in the bond program will be $51,310,000 over 17 years. A tax rate increase is not expected because this is a continuation of the community’s existing investment. This plan is designed to be funded at the current tax level, which has been supported by our community for the past 20 years.
Bond issues require a 60% supermajority to pass. On the September 9 ballot, voters will be asked to consider the proposal through two propositions:
• $49,435,000 for the facility and technology improvements.
• $1,875,000 for the transportation-related purchases, which are required by Oklahoma law to be voted on separately.
