Heritage Elementary School has wrapped up a productive and exciting first semester and is looking ahead to a spring filled with learning, celebration, and community connection.

Before winter break, students and staff gathered for the first House Spirit Assembly of the year. During the assembly, Heritage’s newly formed stomp team proudly performed Phase I of their routine, marking the school’s inaugural year for stomp. The team is made up of 33 students from third through fifth grade and is led by Ms. Misty Tatum, Mrs. Latasha Pinney, and Mr. Nelijah Tatum. This performance showcased teamwork, rhythm, and school pride, and Heritage is proud to begin this exciting new tradition. At the same assembly, the House of Altruismo earned the Spirit Stick for an outstanding performance, while Amistad was named “House Champions” for accumulating the most points overall during the semester. Anticipation is already being built for the Spring semester Spirit Assembly on May 14, when second-semester champions will be crowned.

On February 3, 2026, the House of Reveur proudly hosted its 3rd Annual Talent Showcase, celebrating student creativity and confidence. The event featured two 45-minute performances showcasing 43 student participants. Families and friends enjoyed a wide range of acts, including singing, dancing, and comedy. The showcase continues to be a meaningful opportunity for students to share their talents and step bravely into the spotlight.

Heritage Elementary is also continuing its strong tradition of service. For the fifth consecutive year, the House of Amistad is leading a school-wide Valentine’s Day card project for residents of local nursing homes. This initiative encourages students to spread kindness and brighten the days of community members who may feel isolated during the holiday season. On Thursday, February 12, Amistad leaders and House Council members will personally deliver the cards, reinforcing the school’s commitment to compassion and community outreach.

Family engagement remains a priority at Heritage. For the third year in a row, each house will host a family night designed to build connections and create lasting memories. Events begin with Amistad’s Valentine’s Day Dance on February 12, followed by Isibindi’s “Bindi BBQ and Cornhole Tournament” on March 12. Altruismo will host Bingo Night on April 9, and the series will conclude with Reveur’s “Rolling with Reveur” skate night on May 7.

Academic enrichment continues this spring with Read Across America Week, scheduled for March 2–6, featuring activities designed to inspire a love of reading. The Spring Book Fair will begin April 7, offering students and families the opportunity to explore new books and support literacy efforts.

House Council is once again partnering with a local animal shelter to support animals in need. Beginning in February, Heritage will collect donations such as food, blankets, and toys. Items may be dropped off at the front office, and all contributions are greatly appreciated.

Heritage Elementary is also preparing for its annual PTO Jog-A-Thon, tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, March 10. This community fundraiser has already helped enhance the playground with swing sets, soccer goals, and a GaGa Ball Pit. This year’s goal is to add a Pickleball court by building on funds saved from last year’s project. Families are encouraged to mark their calendars and join in making this year’s event another success.

With strong community support and a full calendar of events, Heritage Elementary looks forward to a memorable and impactful spring semester.
