Tahlequah Public Schools is proud to offer strong academic programs, highly competitive athletic teams, and award-winning opportunities in the arts and music. The programs and services we provide go above and beyond what many districts can offer, and we are grateful for the exceptional community support and partnerships that make these opportunities possible.
We kicked off the new school year with a celebration alongside the Tahlequah Area Chamber of Commerce. Our staff were honored with breakfast, coffee, activities, and generous gifts from local businesses. This year, even more cash gifts were awarded, demonstrating the deep appreciation our community has for educators and the important work they do each day.
The Tahlequah School Foundation also supported our staff by providing boxed Vidalia sandwiches for lunches across the district. The Foundation continues to recognize excellence by honoring our Teachers of the Year with financial awards.
This year’s District Teacher of the Year is Mr. Cody Vann. We are also proud to recognize our Site Teachers of the Year:

The atmosphere of gratitude was overwhelming as our teachers and staff were celebrated by community stakeholders. These partnerships remind us that education is truly a community effort. We will continue building on this positive culture to ensure success for our students, schools, and community.
Growing Our Team
To strengthen our team, Tahlequah Public Schools welcomed 28 new teachers and 20 new support staff this year. Each person has chosen to join TPS with a commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of our students.
All staff members received updated safety training and professional development focused on district policies and expectations, effective teaching strategies, and technology. In addition, every new teacher has been paired with a mentor to provide ongoing support, encouragement, and guidance throughout the school year.
Investing in Our Schools
Our students and families have expressed how excited and thankful they are for the many renovations and improvements completed throughout the district this summer.
At Tahlequah High School, improvements include widened hallways, fresh paint, new tile flooring, and remodeled restrooms. The high school cafeteria also received updates, including two additional serving lines. These improvements will help lunch run more efficiently while providing students with additional choices.
At Tahlequah Middle School, additional cafeteria space was created, and all restrooms were remodeled and updated. We are also currently working in the middle school gym to replace the bleachers and update the floor surface.
At Central, the R.O.A.R. Academy has been rebranded, along with several renovations designed to create a more welcoming and inviting environment for students, families, and visitors.
Rooted in Purpose
Our theme for this school year is “Rooted in Purpose.” This theme reflects the growth taking place throughout Tahlequah Public Schools and our commitment to building a strong foundation for the future.
Being rooted means knowing who we are, where we come from, and what we value. Being rooted in purpose means remaining focused on our most important responsibility: providing every student with the opportunities, support, and education they need to succeed.
