Tahlequah Middle School Begins a Successful 2026–2027 School Year!
The 2026–2027 school year is off to an outstanding start at Tahlequah Middle School. TMS is proud to welcome 688 students this year, creating a vibrant and engaging learning environment. Our students and staff continue to demonstrate a strong commitment to academic achievement, personal growth, and excellence. Through their dedication and hard work, they are helping make Tahlequah Middle School amazing.
Exciting things are happening at Tahlequah Middle School! Just a bit about a few of those things!
“Alice in Wonderland Jr.” Coming in December:
This year TMS Drama is falling down the rabbit hole with Alice as she navigates the curious world of Wonderland on a journey of self-discovery. “Alice in Wonderland Jr.” is a stage adaption of the classic Disney animated film and the Lewis Carroll stories. We had an unprecedented number of auditionees this year: 105 students auditioned! We currently have a cast and crew totaling 70 middle school students, plus a few dedicated high school volunteers who want to help make magic on stage for TMS. We can't wait to show the community how talented our TMS students are on December 5th!
Music at TMS
The TMS Band is off to a strong start this year, already sounding outstanding as they prepare for upcoming performances. Students are working hard in rehearsal, and the TMS 7th and 8th Grade Band will take the stage for the TMS Veterans Day Assembly in November.
Student Media and Creative Expression:
Tahlequah Middle School students also have unique opportunities to develop their voices and showcase their creativity.
· Broadcast Class: Students produce daily announcements that highlight school news and events, adding fun segments that connect and entertain the TMS community. The class builds teamwork, communication, and media skills.
· Tiger Talk Newspaper: Each week, student journalists write, edit, and publish stories covering events, student spotlights, and special features like surveys, contests, and pet highlights. Interviews with peers, staff, and community members help students strengthen their writing and critical thinking skills.
· Native American Heritage Club: This group encourages students to deepen their connections to Native American culture. Members will proudly represent TMS in the Cherokee Challenge Bowl in October.
Student Leadership and School Spirit:
Campaign season is here at TMS! Student Council campaigns kick off on Monday, September 14, 2026, with elections to follow on Thursday, September 17, 2026. Student Council members play an important role in promoting student activities, building school spirit, and representing the student's voice in the community. Looking ahead, TMS will also celebrate Red Ribbon Week in October, continuing its tradition of promoting healthy choices and positive lifestyles.
Outstanding Athletics at TMS:
Tahlequah Middle School takes great pride in its outstanding athletic programs. During the fall semester, student athletes are currently competing in Cross Country, Volleyball, Football, Fast-Pitch Softball, Cheer, and Pom. These teams not only showcase talent and dedication but also highlight the values of teamwork, perseverance, and school pride. Whether on the field, the court, or the sidelines, TMS athletes and spirit squads are setting the tone for an exciting season of competition and celebration.
Clubs, Enrichment, and Beyond:
· Boys and Girls Club: With 330 students enrolled and about 131 attending daily, the club provides a safe and supportive environment for after-school enrichment.
· Technology Student Association (TSA): TMS’s TSA chapter will attend the TSA LEAD Conference, the TSA Fall Conference, and the Oklahoma State Conference, while the Robotics team will showcase its skills at competitions.
With outstanding academics, dynamic arts programs, competitive athletics, and a wide variety of engaging clubs, TMS is buzzing with energy, creativity, and school spirit. From classrooms to the stage, from the playing field to student leadership, our students are stepping up, shining brightly, and showing what it means to be a Tiger. Their hard work, talent, determination, and pride are making TMS a truly special place to learn, grow, and belong! It’s a great day to be a Tiger!
