Greenwood Tigers Are Off to a Great Start!

Greenwood Elementary has had a wonderful beginning to the school year! We are proud to serve 491 students and are grateful for the enthusiasm, energy, and support our students, staff, and families bring to school each day. Our teachers have worked hard to establish welcoming classrooms, strong routines, and high expectations that help every Greenwood Tiger grow and succeed.

Our late-start Fridays have been especially valuable for our Professional Learning Community (PLC) process. During this dedicated time, teachers work together to review student progress, study instructional strategies, plan lessons, and identify ways to meet the individual needs of our students. This collaboration allows our teachers to learn from one another and strengthens instruction throughout the school.

We are also proud of our Greenwood cross-country runners! Several students have placed in our meets, and we look forward to cheering on the team at two more upcoming competitions. Congratulations to all our runners for their effort, determination, and excellent representation of Greenwood!

This week, our PTO is hosting a Jog-a-Thon to raise money for our school. We appreciate the PTO members, families, and community supporters who are helping make this event possible. The Jog-a-Thon is a fun way for students to stay active while supporting Greenwood.

Parent-teacher conferences will be held October 1–2. We are excited for this opportunity to visit with families, celebrate student successes, and work together to support continued growth. Strong partnerships between home and school make an important difference for our children.

Our students also have several exciting learning experiences ahead. Kindergarten and first-grade students will visit the Livesay Pumpkin Patch, while second- and fourth-grade students will travel to Discovery Lab. These field trips will give students opportunities to extend their learning beyond the classroom through engaging, hands-on activities.

This year, Greenwood will hold a fall festival in the gym during the school day in place of individual classroom Halloween parties. Students will have the opportunity to celebrate together and enjoy a fun, schoolwide experience. Additional information will be shared with families as the event approaches.

As we continue through the school year, we encourage every family to make reading part of the daily routine. Just 15–20 minutes of reading each day can strengthen vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and confidence. Families can read aloud, take turns reading, ask questions about the story, or allow children to select books, comics, magazines, recipes, and other materials that interest them. When we read together, our children ROAR!

Consistent routines at home also help children feel secure, become more independent, and arrive ready to learn. A regular bedtime that allows for 9–11 hours of sleep, preparing clothes and backpacks the night before, eating a healthy breakfast, and arriving at school on time can make a tremendous difference. School begins at 8:10 a.m.; students eating breakfast should arrive by 7:50 a.m.

Thank you for making attendance a priority, checking school communications, and talking with your children about what they are learning. We are grateful for our Greenwood families and look forward to an outstanding fall filled with learning, growth, and Tiger pride!

When we work together, Greenwood Tigers grow stronger—and ROAR louder!
